It is held every year in July. Delegates from 83 countries participated in the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in Singapore in 2006. Six Noble Prize laureates come to meet and address the participants in Singapore. Asian countries started Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) from 2000. It is held every year in April. Nepal participated in the 38th  IPhO competitions held in Iran in July 2007 for the first time with four students. Mr. Bishal Lamichhane of St. Xavier’s College won the “HONOR MENTION” award and the President’s prize for the “Best among the New Participants”.  Goal The goal of the National Olympiad in Physics is (i) to spot young talents early, and (ii) to prepare a team for International Physics Olympiad. Participation in the International Physics Olympiad A country can participate in the International Physics Olympiad by sending a team of up to five pre-college students. Their age must be less than twenty years. The team is accompanied by a leader and a deputy leader. A few observers and several visitors may also be included in the country delegation. Students take part in the competition. The leader and the deputy leader have voting rights in the affairs of the Olympiad. The observers help the leaders in their work when needed. This year’s 39th IPhO is scheduled to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from July 21 - 29, 2008.  Nepal Physics Olympiad Nepal Physical Society has formed the Nepal Physics Olympiad (NePhO) Committee and entrusted it with organizing a national level Physics Olympiad for higher secondary or equivalent science students. The participants must not be enrolled in any college and should have their date of birth falling after July 10, 1988. The competition is designed to test the understanding of physical principles and to apply them in practical situations. The best twenty selected students will be given intensive tutorial and training in preparation for the selection of the final five students for the IPhO event. The final team will be given another set of tutorial and training before departure to Hanoi, Vietnam.   Schedule of eventsPre-selection test:                      March 1, 2008 (Falgun 18, 2064)1st preparatory training:              May fourth weeks, 20082nd preparatory training:             June 10-July 15, 2008Departure for IPhO to Hanoi:    July 19, 2008Note: The schedule and duration of tutorials and trainings may change, depending upon the need and availability of funds.  Application Procedure (i) Eligibility for taking part in the pre-selection competition: ·        Student of grade 12 or I.
